As the iOS 9 caption in Settings explains it, “Automatically use cellular data when Wi-Fi connectivity is poor“.
Now, you’ll be free from unannounced data charges and bills that are through the roof.
It’s easy to see how this could be handy if you’re trying to stream audio while walking away from your house, or browsing the internet in your backyard right at the edge of your Wi-Fi’s range, but it comes with a downside as well.
Mobile users are encouraged to tap into Wi-Fi wherever possible to avoid eating into monthly data allotments.
Many iPhone users WSFA 12 News spoke with had no idea what Wi-Fi Assist was, even though it was already running on their phones. With data needs rising so fast, you’re likely to start blowing through your data allotment before the end of the month. It should bring your data consumption back to the normal usage.
So, how do you turn Wi-Fi Assist off if you don’t want it on? Wi-Fi Assist seems like a good way to handle this issue.
To replicate, simply enter four different incorrect passcodes, and – carefully so as not to temporarily lock yourself out of iOS 9 – enter three digits of the fifth.
The new system includes a feature called Wi-Fi assist, which will supplement weak Wi-Fi signals with cellular connection to get you up to the desired signal strength.
When a user connects to a Wi-Fi network that is slow or unresponsive, the cellular device will continue to operate on that slow connection, prolonging apps and webpages from loading and fully developing.
With the release of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, all of the local carriers have updated their data plans.in many cases, they have increased the data allowances. If you’re not aware that your phone is using your cellular data rather than Wi-Fi, you could be racking up unexpected surcharges by accidentally going over your limit.

Amongst its enormous best stuff, iOS 9 has one apparently harmless element: Wi-Fi Assist, empowered as a matter of course, which will change to cell information when your Wi-Fi sucks.
