Mass Effect ride heading to California theme park in 2016

California’s Great America is in Santa Clara, California, which is a bit of a trek from United Kingdom shores (it’s an 11 hour flight from Croydon, Google Maps tells me). Lately, there have been many game companies looking to try their hand at partnering with amusement parks – Nintendo’s deal with Universal Studios to make rides being most notable – and now Electronic Arts and BioWare want Mass Effect to have its own attraction. A live performer will curate the journey and appear to interact seamlessly with the next generation 3D visuals.

Mass Effect isn’t the only video game property to be given the theme park treatment.

4D effects and high-tech sounds will be used to create a feeling of immersion and the adventure will end with a battle which pits fans against powerful enemies. Work to renovate the theater for the Mass Effect ride is already underway. “Guests will travel through space to a distant planet, face off against bigger than life adversaries and ultimately help save the day”, the press release reads.

No date has been mentioned for when the attraction will be open to the public, and no details were given as to when the ride will take place in respect to the Mass Effect timeline. Though we have no idea what a “4D” experience actually is.

This is the very same type of attraction you’ve likely seen and even taken part in before if you’ve visited a Six Flags location or Kings Island during Halloween with special seasonal shows or even Looney Tunes-themed rides. We’ve got a few time to kill before this ride is ready to visit in 2016!
