Apply pressure to resolve Israeli-Palestinians conflict — UN Secretary
“The sense of pride among the Palestinian people was overwhelming the day the world voted in favour of this landmark initiative”, Mr Abbas told the World Post on Tuesday. On September 30, we will raise our flag in a peaceful gesture that will remind all that justice and independence is ultimately possible. “We need the United Nations to atone for its sin by recognising the legitimacy of our struggle”. Many have compared living in Palestine to apartheid. Now, whether the meeting aims to serve certain political goals for one party or another, it will definitely usher in a new beginning as it seeks to reorganize a languid body that many Palestinians see as helpless. That was 22 years ago. The global community would do well not to fall for this or other ruses, often echoed by the BDS and other movements, which care more about hating Israel than helping Palestinians.
A recent poll found that Palestinians are increasingly exasperated with his leadership and Israel’s right-wing government. The recent decision by the Israeli Supreme Court to demolish Palestinian houses in Area A – under the control of the PA – is a case in point.
In New York Abbas is expected to demand that Israel meets its obligations and moves forward with a permanent peace process.
The Saudi request and the FIFA approval is perceived by Arab sports observers a setback for recognizing the Palestinian national team and its right to play on Palestinian territory, amid Israeli violations committed against Palestinian football locally, according to Palestinian statement.
That is why a collective, multilateral peace process is necessary.
Mahmoud Abbas says the model should be based instead on the type of negotiations that took place in the Balkans, Libya and Iran.
The violence occurred on the sidelines of a demonstration organised by Palestinian organisations, in part over the Israeli raids at the Al-Aqsa compound.
