Coachella Organizers Reportedly Looking to Start New York City Music Festival
But the timing of Panorama-two weeks after the 2016 edition of Governors Ball-could hinder the success of the older festival, which is still independently owned and operated. “Coachella could be coming to Queens” reports the always hyperbolic Daily News – and that’s not entirely true or feasible.

AEG Live, the massive entertainment company behind the popular Coachella festival in California and other large-scale events around the country, is looking to rock out under the Unisphere, according to sources and city officials. AEG Live has not commented on the matter.
An economic impact study of the 2014 incarnation of the fest found that it generated $40 million in benefits for New York City. Tom Russell, of Governors Ball, told the Daily News that the introduction of a corporate-run festival could hinder Governors Ball’s ability to bolster the NYC economy with its presence.
And while many would welcome a major Coachella-inspired music festival on the East Coast (hello, revenue), certain people are unhappy with the rumors. In 2008 and 2009 the company presented two under-attended installments of an event dubbed “All Points West”.
Coachella unveiled its lineup on Tuesday morning, with Drake, AC/DC and Jack White as headliners.
There’s a potential new festival touching down in Queens as early as next summer.
If it happens, the concert would mark the first time Flushing Meadows Corona Park would be used by a for-profit company for a paid-admission event.

AEG has apparently already started booking talent for this event, although the specific details around this fest happening are not yet set in stone.
