Joyce Mitchell moved to state prison

She reiterated her excuse that she had helped the two men – David Sweat and Richard Matt – only because she believed they were going to harm members of her family.

Mitchell entered the courtroom in tears and continued to cry throughout most of the 35-minute sentencing and even removed her glasses to wipe her eyes. Matt was killed by a border agent on June 26, and Sweat was captured two days later.

Mitchell said the two murderers also had learned where her mother and one of her three children lives, and that she was anxious about their safety as well. The judge, however, cited the fear caused by the escape to residents of the area in handing down his sentence.

Sweat, 35, faces charges of escape and promoting prison contraband.

Attorneys are reportedly offering David Sweat a deal in exchange for a guilty plea.

“The laws in new york need to be changed, they need to be changed very quickly”, Wylie said.

“If I could take it all back I would”, Mitchell said, according to NBC News.
