Red Sox Could Play Spoiler In American League Postseason Race

New York has 22 wins against Boston since the beginning of the 2014 campaign – its most victories versus any opponent in that span.

I’m not quite sure how that works – it’s still possible for there to be a three-way tie atop the AL West, and those tiebreaker games count as regular season games, which fudge things up – but if the Yankees confirmed it, it must be true. “I gave up four runs and I lost the game”.

Yet Girardi is grateful for what has transpired on a team that many felt at the start of the season would be fourth or last in the AL East standings. For his career, he owns an ERA+ of 127 across 43 starts. But, Masahiro Tanaka’s performance lamented as the be-all and end-all game of the season is pushing the dialogue a bit.

(AP) – Don’t call it a tune-up.

And while it is great news to get Tanaka back healthy in and of itself, the other positive is, because he is pitching on Wednesday, he will have enough rest to be the starter for the one-game Wild Card playoff that will take place on Tuesday, October 5.

RHP Masahiro Tanaka will return from missing 11 days with a Grade One hamstring strain Wednesday when he opposes the Red Sox. The right-hander didn’t leave until after he allowed two runs in six innings.

“I am, yeah”, he said.

“I thought we hit the ball pretty hard”.

Manager Joe Girardi isn’t too concerned with any lingering effects from the injury. Tanaka is 4-2 with a 4.84 ERA in six starts against the Red Sox. Since his scary facial injury August 17 vs. the Minnesota Twins, Mitchell has a 10.80 ERA over his last eight appearances.

Bradley Jr. robbed Chase Headley of extra bases with a terrific running catch at the left-center field wall, with none on in the third.

“There’s not alarm. Let’s make it clear: That team is playing really good baseball”.

“But I like where we’re at”.

The only righthanded bat in the Yankees’ lineup Tuesday night against Boston righthander Rick Porcello was Alex Rodriguez. We just had a lot of stuff going on.

Rodriguez hasn’t homered in 13 games, batting.147 over that stretch after going 1 for 7 in this series.

The magic number to clinch a postseason spot is three, yet a scenario exists in which the Yankees can clinch a postseason spot tonight. He has pitched at least six innings in 14 straight starts since July 3 and in 19 of 23 this season. The rookie catcher had a three-run homer and a two-run blast, giving him a season high in RBIs.
