Kiko Alonso gets good news, Eagles’ LB picture clears up

The Eagles’ first win of the season Sunday is followed Wednesday by a few good injury news. Alonso was a beast in Buffalo before tearing an ACL, a critical injury that can potentially end a football career.

Although Alonso missed all of 2013 with a torn ACL, the expectation is that this latest knee injury will have no lingering impact on his game going forward. Rest and rehabilitation will be all that is required, and Alonso should be able to return to the field in a month or so.

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Kiko Alonso’s ACL was deemed intact by Dr. James Andrews, and he will play again this season, according to National Football League reporter Ian Rapoport.

It’s not even so much that Alonso will return this season – don’t get me wrong, that’s unbelievable news. Four weeks is a blessing when you think about how bad it could have been. In the meantime, DeMeco Ryans, Mychal Kendricks (hamstring), and Jordan Hicks will handle the two inside linebacker spots. The Eagles traded LeSean McCoy for Alonso, and they will likely need his productivity on the field if they are to compete in the NFC East.

The Eagles have avoided the worst-case scenario with Kiko Alonso.

“We’ll see. We’d like to have nine [offensive lineman], that’s the ideal number for us”, Kelly said. Alonso will be a big part of that, and it sounds like the Eagles will get him back just in the nick of time.
