Newborn killed after being thrown from 7th-story window in NYC

Ms Berry has been charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter. Sources tell WPIX her contact with families was limited.

Ms. Berry worked as a child protective specialist and spent the first three months in training that took place in a classroom setting, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Local media said the mother of the child was expected to face murder charges. Johnson reportedly told police that all the while, he thought Berry had had an abortion.

The building superintendent’s wife found the baby unresponsive and unconscious in an alleyway outside the Bronx area residence.

The woman’s boyfriend, Giovanni Johnson, claimed he didn’t know his girlfriend was pregnant and was in the other room when she killed their baby.

“The devil was in her eyes”, said Kenneth Bolton, 29, to NY Daily News, who watched Jennifer get escorted out by police.

Berry’s attorney did not immediately return a call for comment.

An official speaking to the Times on condition of anonymity said Berry initially denied giving birth to the child but later admitted the girl was hers.

A cardboard box that held a small teddy bear, flowers and a bottle had a handwritten note that read: “Came into this life unknown, not knowing what would happen to me, I didn’t have a chance”. The baby’s death was ruled by the city medical examiner as a homicide produced by multiple blunt for injuries.

One witness said: “The baby looked like it was new, it was on the floor covered in blood”.

Christopher McKniff, a spokesman for the city’s Administration for Children’s Services, said the agency has launched a probe to investigate the circumstances that led to the baby’s death.

Berry’s case has been adjourned until October 5 while she remains in jail.
