Labour conference: Corbyn says party will be ‘progressive voice for Scotland’

The new Labour strongman and scarecrow of the political establishment Jeremy Corbyn might be derided for his appearance, attire and archaic speech, but he certainly understands about spin.

Corbyn also urged Cameron to take a stronger line on global human rights and to call on Saudi Arabia to stop the execution of a Shi’ite youth accused of taking part in pro-reform protests.

Yesterday, Shadow Chancellor Mr McDonnell won loud applause from the conference audience but left business leaders with questions when he vowed that a future Labour Government would pursue an anti-austerity agenda yet “dynamically” grow the economy.

On Sunday, the Labour Party said it would be holding a review of how it makes policy to make it “more inclusive, open and democratic”.

He told the conference: “We are embarking on the vast task of changing the economic discourse in this country“. He intends to reveal plans that will extend maternity and paternity as well as sick pay to the large number of self-employed, under a Corbyn Government, according to the Huffington Post.

“Don’t accept injustice, stand up against prejudice”, Corbyn told the party as he ended his speech in Brighton, southern England.

The left-wing leader shied away from radical points of view and proclaimed his love of Britain and British values.

Mr Corbyn is expected to say: “Fair play for all, solidarity and not walking by on the other side of the street when people are in trouble”.

Promising a new way of conducting politics, he will say: “These values are what I was elected on: a kinder politics and a more caring society”. “Working alongside world leading economists Labour will present the coherent alternative our country desperately needs”.

Corbyn, who ran for the Labour leadership with the original goal simply of raising issues, was propelled to the top of the party two weeks ago by activists enthused at his messages of nationalization, nuclear disarmament and higher taxes and public spending.
