Jose Mourinho Cleared of Making Discriminatory Comments to Eva Carneiro By FA

The flashpoint occurred after Carneiro and physiotherapist Jon Fearn – also subsequently withdrawn from first-team affairs – entered the field to treat Eden Hazard, with Mourinho displeased that his team would momentarily be reduced to nine men after Thibaut Courtois’s red card earlier in the second half.

Jose Mourinho has been cleared of making discriminatory comments towards then club doctor Eva Carneiro, the FA has confirmed.

Chelsea had considered taking the decision to arbitration if they were not satisfied by the FA’s written reasons, but the Stamford Bridge club will now let the matter pass.

The governing body said in a statement on Wednesday that it “is satisfied that the words used do not constitute discriminatory language under FA Rules”.

Ever since the incident the Blues have had a rather poor start to the season, now 8 points behind league leaders Manchester United and losing their second Champions League game to FC Porto during the week.

“Women in Football (WiF) are appalled by the conclusion of the FA investigation into Jose Mourinho’s conduct during, and following, Chelsea’s match against Swansea on 8th August 2015”, read a statement on their official website.

The video evidence presented on September 8 to the FA, which included an audience member’s testimony, allegedly said that Mourinho called Carneiro “filha de puta” (daughter of a whore) in Portuguese. “Consequently, on the evidence available to it, The FA will take no further action in relation to this matter”.

Had he been found guilty Mourinho could have faced a five-game ban under FA rule E3 which states that players and coaches can be penalised for using “offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures”.

Even though Chelsea’s boss was cleared of all charges, medical professionals expressed their disagreement over Mou’s actions and declared their support for Dr. Carneiro’s entrance on the pitch during the Chelsea-Swansea match on August 8.

“It’s another example of the FA failing to tackle discrimination”, it said. We therefore find it extraordinary that any expert or Portuguese speaker would report otherwise.

“Once again we are concerned by what we can only perceive as serious flaws in the process of such investigations”.
