Jared Allen traded to Carolina Panthers by Chicago Bears, reports says

The Vikings won’t have to face Jared Allen twice this season after all.

Like Allen, Bostic was another player who did not fit into the what the Bears want to accomplish on the defensive side of the ball, as the team looks to get both younger and more athletic on that side of the football. But he only had 5.5 sacks last year during an illness-plagued season, and was sackless through three games this year in the Bears’ 3-4 scheme. Jared’s presence on the Bears defense won’t be missed. I understand the arguments – he’s dealt with a few injuries during his career, he’s in a contract year and could bring a comparable draft pick to what the Bears could get for Forte. Teammate Pernell McPhee explained how Allen set an example for the others.

“… He knew the game”. When Tillman signed with the Panthers in March, he told reporters, “One of the disheartening things about our profession is people worry so much about age.” Carolina also has elite linebackers in Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis who will be behind Allen on the front seven to free him up. Johnson is in his ninth season with the Panthers, and without him, the Panthers will likely be counting on Allen to be putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

The Panthers would like nothing more than to get Kuechly on the field with Allen.

Starter Charles Johnson left Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints with a hamstring injury.

Fox Sports originally reported news of the trade.

The Panthers used their lone IR-return designation on Johnson, who will be eligible to return to practice as early as November 10 and to a game on Thanksgiving Day against the Dallas Cowboys. The deal is pending a physical, which Allen is expected to take Tuesday.

One has to wonder if Allen struggling to transition to the 3-4 with the Bears is what scared off the Ravens.

“Jared was well-liked”, Fox said.

“It was tough because we were down a wide receiver and with Jerricho out too it was hard on those guys”, Panthers coach Ron Rivera said.

“We’ve had three opportunities in the regular season and they haven’t turned out like we expect”.

The hope for Allen is that he meets expectations in Carolina – which he failed to do in Chicago. While Allen hasn’t recorded a sack yet this season, he did grab an interception in week two.

When asked about the accusation he made Sunday, that referee Ed Hochuli told him “you’re not old enough” to get a roughing-the-passer call, Newton said, “I’m focused and moving forward to Tampa Bay”.
