Fantasy Football: Playing the Waiver Wire for Week 3
It’s the quarterback apocalypse of 2015. There’s no need to send a starting wide receiver for Eli Manning. And he shouldn’t be. The better your selected players do on the field, the better your fantasy does, the more money you make. Because it works.

If you do that, you may be in trouble here in Week 3.
Jones was clearly ahead of Mohamed Sanu last week and he scored on a sweet bomb from Andy Dalton. And some may be wondering why. In Washington’s two outings, the team has totaled 37 carries.
Dalton has five scores and no picks through two games. Then in Week two against the Buffalo Bills he collected 40 rushing yards, a rushing touchdown and 98 passing yards with Legarrette Blount returning. One came on a 13-yard toss play, and the other was on a 108-yard kickoff return for a score.
I got to witness firsthand Sunday night Doug Baldwin’s improved play in Year 5. Let’s start to figure that out with our Week 3 rankings. Of course, it’s a limited sample size, but when injuries and bye weeks take their toll, Gillmore could prove to be a valuable asset. Yes, that was a short week, and this game has 10 days in between for the Broncos, but Abdullah is the type of back that can frustrate the Broncos defense.
With the Raiders traveling to Cleveland, things could be a little messy after their big Week 2 victory.
– Oakland’s Derek Carr (15 percent owned in Yahoo) had 26.34 points by in a huge day against the Baltimore defense that shut down Denver in Week 1.
– Martellus Bennett – T-11 TE – Bennett failed to reach the end zone yesterday, dropping him to T-11 for TEs.
WEEK 3* Quarterbacks listed by passing attempts.
As a result, fantasy quarterbacks are thriving.
Tannehill has become a low-key star in fantasy football, finishing in the top ten scoring for quarterbacks previous year.
Will there be more shenanigans in Week 3, or will order be restored in the fantasy world, with the elite players rising back to the top?
This is absurd. It’s asinine. For now, he has to be considered the No. 2 receiver in Miami, and that’s a slot that should produce, at worst, a top-40 fantasy season. Beyond that, however, playing the matchups is the name of the game. Until we see signs of weakness, opposing running backs should be anxious about gaining efficient yardage. In Week 1, things looked decent for Jennings, despite being out-snapped by Shane Vereen. I’ve been all about Jones since the preseason (I still believe he will end up outperforming Alfred Morris) and he has another very good matchup against the Giants this week. However, with Jimmy Clausen at the helm instead of Cutler, no Bears players are safe bets with the possible exception of Matt Forte.
Tough against the pass: The New York Jets showed on Monday night that the investments in their secondary (including Darrelle Revis) are going to pay dividends.
Jonathan Stewart, Carolina Panthers, knee (P): No worries when it comes to Stewart’s status. Whether you started your season 0-2, 1-1 or 0-2, playing the waiver wire is one of the most important keys to bringing home the championship belt while heckling your friends. According to coach John Fox, Jeffery experienced “hamstring tightness” after practice on Thursday and was subsequently held out of practice on Friday. To stay fantasy relevant at wide receiver, you just need one deep catch for a touchdown each game. With a high team total, and with the Colts favorites, we should expect a lot of Gore and potentially his first touchdown as a Colt. With Aqib Talib and Chris Harris squeezing down on outside routes, particularly as the Lions approach the goal line, expect Eric Ebron to be a featured weapon and red zone threat this Sunday. The Bucs offense is going to be all over the map with a rookie QB at the helm, and a running game that doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. At all. And I should be clear about that. McCoy also acknowledged he was not 100 percent heading into the Bills’ season opener. Benjamin’s success in the first two weeks can not be ignored though. Bortles is a great scrambler and will surprise those who gamble on him in Week 3. It’s only 2 games, I know, so I won’t be guilty of writing off the Eagles just yet, but it’s sure tempting. If you didn’t, don’t chase last week’s numbers. And getting things right may involve funneling their offense through Murray at some point. The first game was one big play on a 55 yard touchdown reception, but last week, Johnson showed that he has fantasy potential with his ground game.
I don’t feel that I have to spend too much time on this one. T.Y. Hilton is still the lead dog in the receiving corps, but Moncrief is making a strong case for him to be Luck’s #2 option for targets. He has thrown five picks and lost a fumble through two games. Per Pro Football Focus, Lewis ranks first among 33 qualifying running backs with 0.53 missed tackles per touch. The last two season he only had a combined four touchdowns but in 2012 he had eight receiving touchdowns. He’s got 6 catches on the year for 204 yards and 3 TDs. It’s caused the Eagles to already surrender three top-30 wide receiver performances in PPR leagues in two weeks.
Dallas Cowboys’ Tony Romo is helped off the field after an injury… Have no fear though, as all that is going to change in Week 3 when the Seahawks get a juicy matchup with the Bears Swiss cheese defense. Even if he goes, Marshall’s a good play. Matty Ice reels off 363 yards, and not a single 1 of them is thrown to Roddy White?
He’s playing the kind of football I always thought he could. Which is great for anyone looking for a FLEX in a PPR league. Don’t. He’s in a good spot this week and has big-play upside. Fellow tight end Gavin Escobar added, “He’s the toughest guy I’ve ever seen play football”.
Part of that was due to a Dwayne Allen injury, but even Coby Fleener wasn’t targeted.
Who to drop? Both Saints tight ends. The team will go run-heavy as they attempt to eat up clock, and that’s worked statistically for New England opponents so far this year.
Randall Cobb, Green Bay Packers, shoulder (P): The best news coming out of the Packers’ Week 1 contest, besides the win, was that Cobb appeared to suffer no setbacks with regards to his shoulder. Eli couldn’t get anything going deep at Dallas last week. No thanks. The only positive for the Eagles is that they play in a division in which the only team with any clue what it’s doing just lost its quarterback for at least 8 weeks with a broken clavicle (ouch!).
