Jian Ghomeshi pleads not guilty

The 48-year-old did not speak with reporters as he walked into the courthouse. He is represented by Marie Henein ar Henein Hutchinson LLP. His face remained impassive as the details of the charges were read to the court.

At that time, Ghomeshi published a long Facebook defence of himself that described his interest in “a variety of activities in the bedroom…”

Ghomeshi was sacked by the CBC last October. He was originally charged with seven counts of sexual assault and one count of overcoming by choking, but the Crown withdrew two sexual assault charges. Three more sexual assault charges were added in January.

The other alleged sexual assault where charges were dropped, occurred in May of 2003 in Toronto. The Trailer Park Boys actress has waived her right to a publication ban.

The Crown cited a different factual context as the reason for the separate trials.

The proceedings have been scheduled to take place at Toronto’s Old City Hall.

The one-time radio star has admitted to engaging in rough sex, but said it was consensual.

Ghomeshi, who is now free on $100,000 (£62,500) bail, was sacked from his job at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) a year ago (Oct14) after the allegations surfaced in the media.
