Mother ‘tossed newborn from seventh floor window’

The mother of a newborn baby girl found dead outside of a building after apparently being dropped out of a window in New York City has been charged in the child’s death, reports CBS New York. The medical examiner said the baby died from blunt force trauma in the fall, meaning she was born alive.

Detectives questioned the child’s mother throughout the night Monday and arrested her Tuesday.

Mr Johnson told cops that he asked if she was pregnant, and she told him she’d had an abortion about four months ago. The infant’s umbilical cord was still attached.

At the time Jennifer Berry insisted the blood was ‘just from her menstrual cycle’.

Berry worked as a child protective specialist back in 2007.

A baby has plunged to her death after falling from a window on the seventh floor of an apartment building.

Berry, who is a former child welfare worker, was taken to the police custody on Tuesday, September 29.

Officers also spoke to her boyfriend who denied any knowledge of the incident – and said he had not even been aware she was pregnant. “The medical examiner has determined that the baby was alive”, Barker told the judge as an impassive Berry stood by in grimy gray sweatpants and a darker gray hoodie.

“The devil was in her eyes”, said Kenneth Bolton, 29, to NY Daily News, who watched Jennifer get escorted out by police.

“There was air in the lungs, this was a healthy baby girl”, Assistant District Attorney Georgia Barker told the court.

The city’s children services department had now launched a probe to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic death, NBC News reported.

Berry’s case has been adjourned until October 5 while she remains in jail.
