Humble Bundle has announced a new subscription service, the Humble Monthly Bundle.

Well, it finally happened: Someone realised that you could take the Loot Crate model where people willingly pay a fixed price each month and receive surprise goods in the mail, and applied it to video games.

Humble Bundle has been around for a while now, and they’ve served up millions of dollars to charities over the years. On its website, it mentions that at least a few of the games will be those that haven’t been included in past bundles. “Includes everything from recent hits to hidden gems to timeless classics-every month”. It’s unclear what the breakdown will be between Humble’s cut and that of developers; Humble Bundles typically allow you to decide the amount split between the two. For example, you can now spend on a bundle that will get you the excellent strategy games Planetary Annihilation and Xenonauts; Double Fine’s hilarious wrestling game Gang Beasts, and many more.

The first Humble Monthly bundle will come out on November 6, but anyone who subscribes now will get a copy of Legend of Grimrock 2 right away. The subscription can be cancelled anytime and all games received during that time can be download again from your Humble Bundle account.

With the Humble Bundle Monthly, ostensibly more money goes into the pocket of Humble Bundle. Sony’s game streaming service PlayStation Now (which isn’t available in New Zealand at this stage) offers both a subscription service and the option to rent individual titles at varying prices. There’s also the Humble Store, which sells computer games like other digital storefronts.
