Love – Woods willing to help

I hit it in it a lot.

Clarke has always admired Love and referenced him when being praised for his own act of sportsmanship when declining to go for the green and instead chipping out on to the fairway when his lie was improved by fans at the 2006 Irish Open. I like more opportunities for birdies.

Clarke has enjoyed a phenomenal career, which saw him become the first European victor of a World Golf Championship (defeating Tiger Woods 4 and 3 in the 36-hole Match Play final of 2000). “So, Tiger, Phil, Webb Simpson, Chris Kirk, all those guys, they’re excited about making this team and making it a winning team”. Singh’s close friend Darren Clarke will be captaining the European side.

The difference between a putt lipping in and lipping out doesn’t seem an bad lot, but it’s a huge amount of momentum to the team.

It is rich in history, drama and grudges and the United States will be eager to reclaim the title after losing to Europe for a third consecutive time previous year at Gleneagles in Scotland. “I for one can not wait to get back here”. That’s probably the most nervous I’ve ever been on a golf course. Then we had a fog delay Friday morning, so I got to sit around and think about it for about an hour and a half. Everybody is trying to win out there and make the most out of it – I think rivalry is what gets the best out of a player in many ways. “It’s an experience that stays with you forever”.

“I think I will be a good Captain”.

“The roars and shouts from the galleries is part and parcel of the Ryder Cup”.

“It will be fair and competitive and fun”.

Darren Clarke will have the opportunity to test his mettle as Europe captain ahead of next September’s Ryder Cup, and he will do so against long-time friend Jeev Milkha Singh, after they were announced as captains for January’s EurAsia Cup.

Love last captained the USA team in 2012, when Europe overcame a four-point deficit at the start of the final day to pull off a 14/2-13/2 win. We are hoping that all four of them are playing – we need their veteran leadership – but, if not, they have said, ‘Look, I will do whatever it takes’.

“I think Tiger, if he is healthy for the whole year, will be fine”. We are the elder statesmen a little bit of the game now.

“I’m sure next year the atmosphere is going to be electric”.

“Past captains have said the same thing, so we have a family now of willing participants, whether they are going to play or be assistant captains”. They understand what golf’s all about. Golf is now a global sport so it’s going to be a fantastic competition.
