Liverpool news: Under pressure Brendan Rodgers pleads with Liverpool fans to

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Roberto Firmino’s back injury might be more serious than initially expected.

After a stuttering start to this season, Liverpool are 13th in the Premier League but only four points off fourth place, which remains the minimum target for Rodgers.

Rodgers offered a reminder about what he achieved in leading Liverpool back into the Champions League and to the brink of the title when he had “world class players” at his disposal in 2013-14.

“After that season, they finished second“.

Liverpool have only scored four goals in the current campaign and have already conceded seven, with numerous managers new signings failing to live up to expectations in the early stages.

They performed poorly against League Two side Carlisle United in the Capital One Cup third round on Wednesday, needing a penalty shoot-out to go through after a 1-1 draw.

The likes of Carlo Ancelotti and Jurgen Klopp have been tipped to replace Rodgers, who is now the favourite to be the next Premier League managerial departure. The results business dictates the future health of managers, and Rodgers badly needs points to assist his argument of self-improvement. “But it’s great to see him on the training field and the pitch and obviously he’ll be available for tomorrow”.

“He would have been the hottest property in football”. If you don’t get results the pressure is there but I enjoy challenges.

However, former Arsenal midfielder Merson feels that the Reds are set to go a few way towards relieving the pressure on their manager by securing a narrow win over Tim Sherwood’s men on Merseyside on Saturday afternoon.

“Daniel Sturridge has shown over his time here he is a top talent, you miss that quality and we’ve suffered for it. I thought he was outstanding today”. Whether or not Brendan Rodgers thinks he is a better figure than three years ago is neither here nor there. Only in this country do you get stigma when a manager gets sacked. You come through the other side. For me I know we have created the expectancy because we produced a high level.

Rodgers also gave a message to the club’s baying supporters, saying: “Keep faith with the team – it’s not about me”.
