Minimum wage hike of 25 cents takes effect in Ontario
The last increase was on June 1, 2014 when the minimum saw an increase from $10.25 to $11 an hour. The process for minimum wage adjustments will be reviewed every 5 years.

Ontario’s minimum wage earners will be getting a little more on each paycheque starting Thursday.
The NDP government says it’s a first step toward a $15 minimum wage by 2018.
The increase is a result of recent changes to the Employment Standards Act, 2000 and a recommendation from the Minimum Wage Advisory Panel to tie the annual increase to Ontario’s Consumer Price Index.
UC President Janet Napolitano announced the wage hikes in July.
“Supporting the employees – and their families – who help make UC a leading institution is an important part of our values as a public university”, Napolitano said. “It means that minimum wage earnings will not fall as far behind as they have in the past when the minimum wage could be frozen for years at a time”. These are separate from tuition and fees, state resources and other funds that support UC’s core instructional programs.

“We want to get the word out that the minimum wage is being adjusted by 25 cents to keep up with inflation”, says Deena Ladd, coordinator of the Workers’ Action Centre.
