Police do not believe the public is in danger.

“She was pretty beat up, she had a bruise on her eye and a cut on her head…she looked okay, outside of that she was pretty freaked out”, Sampson said.

The identity of the man and the cause of death have not been released.

The woman was crying and breathing fast.

“I just felt bad for her”, Sampson said.

An audio account posted on the Police Clips Facebook page indicated a caller heard two gunshots fired in the area of 1800 block of Case Avenue and a woman screaming for help. “I don’t feel safe going outside”.

The baseball field reopened after police completed their investigation, and the Hazel Park Recreation Center opened at its regular 3 p.m. time, according to St. Paul Parks and Recreation.

“You come outside and have a cigarette and you’ll hear shots but they’re not close, but this is close”, said Courtney Sampson, who lives near Hazel Park.
