Call Of Duty Causes Outrage With Fake Terrorist Attack Twitter PR Stunt
In the 2014 game Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, there was a highly controversial scene where the player character attended a military funeral and was given the prompt “Press F to Pay Respects”.

The campaign follows a group of Black Ops soldiers as they navigate a new Cold War in search of their missing comrades. However, this experiment seems to have gone awry and has left a trail of dead bodies behind.
To make events more convincing, the account switched its username and avatar on its verified Twitter account to read “Current Events Aggregate” with the tagline “We bring you real news”. Fans who preorder the game can get the popular Nuketown bonus map on PS4, Xbox One and PC. At first the account was posting about fashion news which, according to GamesRadar, is a way of establishing its credentials as a news source.
The Call of Duty Twitter account started tweeting to its millions of followers that a 30-mile quarantine zone had already been set up after an alleged explosion at the Northbank of Singapore Marina.
A series of tweets created to promote the latest “Call of Duty” video game have drawn scorn on social media for their description of a fictional terrorist attack. Many slammed Call of Duty, saying the stunt was offensive and made light of terrorism.
Singaporean newspaper The Straits Times reported that netizens have criticized Activision for the stunt. “This method of advertising is actually kinda sick”.
While another said: “Was reading about a few kind of explosion in singapore and was deeply concerned until i realized that the tweets were from call of duty…”

After reverting back to the Call of Duty branding, a tweet stated that “this was a glimpse into the future fiction of Black Ops 3″.
