STAGE TUBE: Top 8! Celebrate Julie Andrews 80th Birthday With Our Favorite
Dame Julie Andrews turned 80 Thursday, and you couldn’t help but be touched by the outpouring of affection. She got her Broadway start at 19, and hasn’t looked back since. However, it wasn’t the acting that the England born actress was originally known for, but rather her extremely impressive four-octave singing voice.

She has broken many barriers in her career, not least of all playing a man, dressed as a woman, in 1982’s “Victor/Victoria“. The Disney film became a classic and helped Julie Andrew propel into Hollywood stardom. The duo married in 1969. Starring opposite a then unknown Anne Hathaway, Andrews plays the Queen of Genovia and naturally she crushes it. Both the first movie, and the sequel, are Oscar worthy, in our opinion.

What many may not realize, however, is that the iconic actress has been writing for decades, with a laundry list of books to her credit – and occasionally to her oldest daughter’s credit.
Her “Victor/Victoria” co-star, James Garner, also appeared with Andrews is one of her best dramatic roles, “The Americanization of Emily“.
In addition, Julie Andrews is mother to three girls – Hamilton, Amy Edwards and Joanna Edwards – and stepmother to Blake Edwards’ children Jennifer and Geoffrey. She also received an Oscar nomination for this film. Happy birthday, Dame Julie.

Andrews won a best actress Academy Award for her role as nanny Mary Poppins in the 1964 film, in which she starred alongside Dick Van Dyke.
