It goes on to say, that “despite all of this, Mr. Matthew became a well-recognized athlete in his community, graduated high school, attended college, and has consistently maintained employment in order to provide for himself and his family” and that he has “sustained lifelong friendships”.

The court hearing is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
Matthew, of Charlottesville, Va., also faces first-degree murder and abduction with intent to defile charges in connection with the murders of University of Virginia student Hannah Graham and Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington.
That victim’s mother, Gil Harrington, was in court for Matthew’s sentencing Friday in the 2005 case.
Meanwhile in Albemarle County, the death penalty is on the table. That information is necessary to determine whether the state followed jury selection procedures required by law, they said.
He faces up to life in prison.
Higgins did approve a motion by Matthew’s attorneys to allow them to file motions under temporary seal in order to prevent potential witnesses from being subjected to intense media scrutiny prior to hearings before the trial. Mathews has not yet been convicted of wrongdoing in the Harrington case. DNA evidence collected from Matthew during last year’s investigation of Graham’s disappearance linked him to the Fairfax County case.
A judge sentenced Matthew, 33, to three life sentences Friday for a 2005 incident in which grabbed a 26-year-old woman as she was returning from a Fairfax, Virginia, grocery store and sexually assaulted her, the county’s Commonwealth Attorney Raymond Morrogh told CNN. He’s expected to be sentenced in October.
Matthew entered an Alford plea before the trial ended.

Morrogh, who held a press conference afterwards, said he had not yet contacted her to let her know, but would soon.
