Microsoft unveils Azure Container Service; leverages both Docker and Mesosphere

Mandar Kulkarni, India – ýDirector for Cloud and Data Centre Programs at Microsoft, told The Hindu, “This centre will make a tremendous positive impact on the process of digitizing the state”. According to Jason Zander, corporate vice president of the Azure team at Microsoft, Azure Container Service is “an open-source container scheduling and orchestration service which builds on our partnerships with both Docker and Mesosphere, as well as our contributions to open source projects in this space”.

Speaking more about the newly launched local cloud services, we can expect these services to improvise the digital transformation we are witnessing across the country. While Microsoft Azure services were launched on Tuesday, the commercial Office 365 services would be available from October and Dynamics CRM Online services will be made available from the first half of 2016. Available in preview within the next few months, the N-series will feature the Nvidia Tesla Accelerated Computing Platform as well as Nvidia GRID 2.0 technology.

Azure Data Lake is claimed to make big data processing and analytics simpler and more accessible. The service will integrate with other security offerings from Barracuda, Checkpoint, Cisco, CloudFlare, F5 Networks, Imperva, Incapsula and Trend Micro, Microsoft execs said.The coming service will handle security monitoring, policy management and threat-detection.

“Our ongoing collaboration with Resin.io has significant potential benefits for customers”, said Barb Edson, General Manager for Data Platform and Internet of Things, Microsoft. They will now be able to extend their existing IT infrastructure and private clouds to Microsoft local (public) cloud, thereby creating compelling hybrid cloud scenarios and reducing their cost of IT operations significantly. It also includes single billing facilities for the BT Compute and Azure services.
