HBO In Talks With ZACK SNYDER For WATCHMEN TV Series

HBO has spoken with Zack Snyder, director of the 2009 movie Watchmen, about a potential Watchmen TV series. “Watchmen” might just be the flawless series to put on the “Game of Thrones” time slot.

Should HBO move forward with the project, they will be joining the league of extraordinary television networks that have also bought comic book adaptations to television.

In addition, comic book movies now are showing a greater range of tones, going both darker and lighter.

His film was met with mixed reactions. Still others were enamored with Snyder’s darkly stylish vision, and impressed at his handling of a supposedly “unfilmable” storyline. In this case, the distinction is important that it’s HBO (and not “TV”), because any adaptation of this project needs free rein to get gritty and graphic – regardless of whether Doctor Manhattan’s nether blue regions are pixelated or diapered.

As of now it’s not clear what kind of Watchmen TV series HBO and Snyder have in mind.

While Moore likely wouldn’t endorse a possible TV reimagining either, Collider notes that the story’s long and windy format may work better on the small screen.

Snyder didn’t write Man of Steel (David S. Goyer is responsible for that), but it’s hard to imagine a more tone deaf super hero movie in the 21st Century, getting several important facets of Superman’s character completely wrong.

If HBO opts for the prequel approach, it wouldn’t be out of the question for a few of the theatrical Watchmen to reprise their roles.

It’s worth pointing out that there’s fresh, related source material they could draw from.

Enter Before Watchmen, a 2012 prequel series of comic books from DC Comics.

At this stage, perhaps Ozymandias could figure out whether talks ever morph into a series realized.

Snyder directed the 2009 film adaptation that had fair success at the box office.

After all, neither the movie nor original graphic novel spent much time with the Watchmen as a team, and how about the Minutemen?

Of course, Snyder’s schedule is full dealing with his second, and more successful, attempt to launch a superhero universe.

Would I watch the Watchmen (no pun intended) series if it made it to HBO?

Zack Snyder's 2009 film adaptation of Watchmen may have flopped at the box office but that hasn't deterred him from giving it another
