Herts and Essex can expect a foggy start to the weekend, according to a severe weather warning from the Met Office.

Visibility will fall below 100 metres in place, meaning that driving conditions will become hard.

The weather body has issued a yellow “be aware” alert, which applies from 1am to 11am on Saturday (Oct 3).

Friday night will be dry but cloudy, with mist and fog patches.

As a result the RSA is warning road users of the dangers of driving in heavy fog.

The biggest risk is of a multiple-vehicle pile-up on roads with higher speeds such as motorways and dual carriageways.

“If the fog closes in, reduce your speed further and take your time getting to your destination”.

She added that vulnerable road users should do what they can to avoid, cycling or walking in fog.
