A plane crashed into Lake Hartwell in Oconee County Friday afternoon, killing all four people on board.
Oconee County Emergency Services Deputy Chief Adams Williams said that around 3:20 p.m. Friday, the plane issued a mayday distress call and cited the Warsaw registered plane’s tail number.
Agencies in Georgia and South Carolina received several reports of a small plane going down, but witnesses could not pinpoint the crash location, Williams said.
The men were flying from Warsaw, Indiana, to Clemson, South Carolina, to attend Saturday’s Notre Dame-Clemson game.
Ground crews had been searching the banks of the lake and boats with sonar capability had been scouring the area, Williams said.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are on the way to the scene to investigate the crash.
