Updated: A New Jersey worker was sacked for passing gas, his wife says in a disability suit filed against his now-former employer. The procedure, which is created to reduce the size of the stomach, often comes with embarrassing side-effects.

Louann and Rich Clem both worked at Case Pork Roll Co. of Trenton, N.J., when complications from Rich’s gastric bypass surgery “overpowered the aroma of their company’s processed meat product”, according to The News Courier.

In 2013, Clem’s symptoms worsened, which caused “significant disruption in the workplace”, according to the suit.

A 70-year-old man in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania was sacked by a pork company for farting too much at work, according to a media report. The two reportedly shared an office space out of customers’ view, and that they would “just open a window” or “burn candles all the time” to combat the unpleasant odors.

“This can’t go on”, Dolan purportedly said to Luann Clem.

The 190-kilogramme man, who suffered from obesity and had the operation to save his life, was forced to work from home at least once before being fired in February past year. It says Louann Clem quit the same day “because of the harassment and discrimination her husband faced as a result of his disability and the resulting symptoms”.

“It’s NOT healthy. I keep trying to tell them it’s not healthy if I just sit there and hold it in”. “Even I took a pay cut. That was the end of it”. Case Pork Roll has not responded to an Eater request for comment.
