Facebook has a new update that will make your profile more dynamic.

Facebook will introduce the new feature first for “a small number of iPhone users” in California and the United Kingdom, according The Telegraph UK.

Twenty-six million users changing their profile picture to show their support for the campaign.

The videos mark the first major change to Facebook’s format since 2011 when it introduced the “cover photograph” – a background picture at the top of users’ profile pages. Today we’re starting to test the next step in an obvious evolution of profiles: “profile videos”, the company wrote.

The new update is also bringing a feature that will set a temporary profile photo for a set period of time and then revert back to the original picture when the specified period passes. Facebook users put up these temporary pictures to celebrate certain events or holidays. Facebook explained that profile photos can be a visual status updates to let your friends know what is going on with your life for the moment. The profile picture/video will now be centered, instead of being to the left, and will be significantly larger in size.

“We’ve seen a lot of people “hack” their profiles to show bits of their personality like nicknames, and we wanted to give people a new, freeform space at the top of the profile to do that”, a Facebook spokesperson was quoted as saying. While this space is visible to anyone who visits your profile, you have full control of what information appears here. The website also reported that Facebook plans to roll out the new feature to other smartphone users soon. If you’d like to be spontaneous and record your own video profile picture immediately, click on “Take a new Profile Video”, but if you’d like to use one you made earlier, select “Upload Video or Photo”.
