Chelsea confidence not quite the same, says Ronald Koeman

Mourinho’s lack of faith appeared to spread to Hodgson after Bertrand was overlooked for national selection for much of last season, despite helping Southampton become one of the meanest defensive units in the Premier League.

Having failed to capitalise on Willian’s goal, Chelsea conceded two minutes before the interval and were then hit by two strikes in 12 second-half minutes from Mane and Pelle.

“It is harder to defend a title than winning it for the first time because when all the other teams don’t win, they strengthen their squad, they become better, they make expensive signings and add very good players”. They didn’t concede a lot of goals.

Manager Ronald Koeman has talked about Graziano Pelle and Dusan Tadic, and Ryan Bertrand has said that Southampton are no different to anybody else when it comes to searching for consistency this season. “Maybe the confidence is not quite the same”.

Chelsea have lost five games this season in all competitions, including Tuesday’s 2-1 Champions League reverse at Porto.

Boss Ronald Koeman will otherwise choose from the same squad which beat Swansea 3-1 at St Mary’s last weekend.

“It was a good conversation because he always likes to play, he likes to train and he is a fantastic professional but sometimes you have to open the eyes of a few football players”.

It’s still early days in respect to them and I’m sure they will pull it together soon and everyone will be talking about them again‘.
