Oklahoma State’s Ben Grogan kicked the game-winner in the final minute for the second week in a row Saturday to beat Kansas State 36-34, moving the No. 20 Cowboys to 5-0.
After the Wildcats (3-1, 0-1) built a 28-13 lead late in the second quarter, the Cowboys rallied to take a 33-28 lead on quarterback Mason Rudolph’s 3-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Sheperd with 6:06 to go.
Joe Hubener scored on an 8-yard run to give K-State a 34-33 advantage with 3:01 left.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Cowboys are 7.5-point home favorites versus the Wildcats while the total now sits at 49.5 points for this evening’s game. With Alex Delton and Jesse Ertz out with previous injuries and Jonathan Banks out sick, Miller and KSU coach Bill Snyder called on their fifth option under center, wide receiver Kody Cook.
Cook returned to the ballgame as the quarterback and led another drive, this time the highlight was a 27 yard keeper deep into Oklahoma State territory.
He accounted for all but 45 of the Wildcats’ 230 yards of offense, passing for 127 yards and running for 58 more. On the ground, Justin Silmon rushed for 113 yards in 24 attempts while Charles Jones added 33 yards and one touchdown in seven carries.
The Cowboys, as they had much of the half, responded. Junior wide receiver Kody Cook led the Wildcats on a touchdown drive keyed by a 17 pass to Deante Burton on 3rd down. Situational quarterback J.W. Walsh threw for Oklahoma State’s other touchdown, a 4-yard toss to wideout Jalen McCleskey.
Rudolph passed for 196 yards and two touchdowns in the half, also connecting with wideout James Washington on a 32-yard scoring play.
