After Oregon shooting, possible gunman reported at Virginia Commonwealth
VCU Police are saying to resume normal activity after previously sending an alert Friday morning about a possible armed subject near school grounds.

The suspect is described as male, wearing a military style hat and backpack.
Richmond police spokesman James Mercante said that the call about the armed person came in just before 10 a.m.
The VCU, Richmond, and Virginia State Police are all on the scene investigating, and asked to avoid the area if possible.
The alert comes a day after a gunman in Oregon opened fire at students in Umpqua Community College, killing nine.
Police searched the area and were unable to confirm the information, the Richmond university said in a later alert.
In total, there are almost 30,000 students at VCU and almost 15,000 staff, according to the school’s website. The killer died after exchanging gunfire with two police officers who confronted him.

“We stress that it is perfectly legal in Virginia to openly carry a weapon”, Mercante said.
