The Busan worldwide Film Festival just started its 20th anniversary run, with plenty of drama on screen and off.

Last night, on the eve of the screening, director Mozez Singh, the starcast of the film Vicky Kaushal & Sarah Jane Dias and producers Guneet Monga and Shaan Vyaas were invited to a private dinner with the BIFF festival directors at the poshest restaurant in Korea, Yeyije.

While the festival has struggled with funding issues over the past year, Asia’s film industry as a whole is booming. Ninety-four world premieres and 27 global premieres will be shown at this year’s festival.

“Zubaan” follows a young man born to a poor Punjab family who searches for life’s important values and his true self under the influence of his deceased father after he achieves much awaited success.

Wieland Speck, director of the Panorama section of the Berlin worldwide Film Festival, will take home the Korean Cinema Award.

The film festival is expected to delight moviegoers before it closes with the film “Mountain Cry” on October 10.

They include famous French actress Sophie Marceau, director Leos Carax of “Boy Meets Girl”, “Bad Blood” and “Les Amants du Pont Neuf”, Hollywood tough guy Harvey Keitel who recently appeared in Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel”, and “Snowpiercer” supporting star Tilda Swinton.

Joining them on the red carpet will be a pack of Asian cinema heavyweights, including Chinese actress Tang Wei, Masami Nagasawa from Japan, and Taiwan’s Chang Chen.

It is the directorial debut of Mozez Singh, a recognized Indian independent film writer.
