Donna Shalala suffers stroke

CEO of the Clinton Foundation and former administrative cabinet secretary to Bill Clinton, Donna Shalala, suffered a stroke Tuesday night, according to USA Today.

“Fortunately, she was with colleagues at the time and taken to the hospital for treatment”, Clinton said, according to CNN.

The charitable organisation and its worldwide arm – the Clinton Global Initiative – was set up after Bill Clinton left the presidency. She held this position for eight years. At the end of her tenure, the school named the Shalala Student Center, a building she oversaw the construction of, after her.

Shalala took over at the Clinton Foundation this year. The foundation said in a statement that the 74-year-old former University of Miami president was hospitalized after falling ill following the conference’s closing ceremonies.
