A Guide To Organising The Music For Your Event

Music is a beautiful thing. It evokes emotion within us, brings people together and can really enhance a situation for the better. But its dexterity and variety mean that there is such a vast spectrum that it is almost impossible to please everyone with a single piece of music. However, when planning for an event it is important to do as best you can to please the masses and make sure that your chosen music hits its target in order to bring about an enjoyable occasion for all.

So what options do you have? You’ve considered your guests and the tone of the event and now you’re ready to pin your hopes on a particular style of acoustics. Well here are a few ideas for how to set your event off just right.

A DJ is a popular option for a lot of different events as it means that you can play a variety of different music in the hope that it pleases the majority of your guests. You also have the assurance that the songs will be well known and therefore people are likely to get up and dance to them. The problem with a DJ though is that if they arrive with their flashing disco lights, monstrous sound system and cheesy mike skills and nobody decides to dance, then it could be a bit embarrassing and end up putting a downer on your event.

You also need to consider the flooring that your venue has. You could suffer more than a bit of embarrassment if the DJ’s songs are constantly skipping due to a combination of loose floor boards and people dancing.

In many ways a live band creates a more sophisticated tone for your event and even if no one ends up dancing for a while they can still send an elegant air resounding around your venue. Depending on the type of event and your guests tastes you may want to opt for a wedding jazz band or a lively swing band to really get the party started in a refined fashion.

You can give the band creative licence if you wish or brief them on a set list if you feel you know exactly what will go down well. Either way your guests are sure to be able to interact better with a live band than a man behind some DJ decks with the microphone too close to his mouth.

A Silent Disco –

Silent discos are the latest craze at any student event and could be the perfect way to provide musical entertainment for a younger audience. The basic premise is that instead of having a DJ or a band playing the music out to everyone; each person has their own set of headphones.

Music is then played through these on two different channels and the wearer can choose which one they want to listen to. You then have the amusing situation where anyone not wearing headphones, or who chooses to take them off momentarily, can hear everyone singing their hearts out without so much as a single note of music filling the air. This could be a great idea if you are worried about making too much noise or if your party if likely to go on into the small hours.
