Nurse learns patient dying from hit-and-run is her brother

A suspect has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run collision that left a 23-year-old skateboarder dead at an intersection in San Juan Capistrano, authorities announced Saturday evening.

Police described how Cesar Andres Medina was crossing the street on his skateboard at an intersection San Juan Capistrano when he was hit by a black pickup truck.

A nurse in a California hospital, in the midst of a bustling Friday night shift, broke down in tears when she recognized the patient who was rushed in, dying, after a hit-and-run accident: her brother. She added that her little brother always had a big smile and loved to take care of people, especially the ones he loved. But when the nurse opened his wallet, she instantly recognized the I.D.

The 23-year-old man was identified by the coroner’s office as Andy Medina, aka Cesar.

Ms Medina said when her colleague found the man’s wallet, she immediate recognised it.

“Everything just collapsed. I just couldn’t hold it together”.

The collision happened on Del Obispo Street at Paseo Carolina around 10 p.m. Friday.

Witnesses told NBC Los Angeles Medina had the right of way and was on a green light when he was run down.

“Please I’m begging the guy that killed my nephew to go to the police”, said Mary Floyd, the victim’s aunt. KCBS Cesar Medina died after being hit by a truck, sending him flying 20 feet in the air.

Andrew Christopher Michaels, 19, was taken into custody after investigators obtained information that led them to his home in Laguna Niguel, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release. A short time later, Michaels contacted deputies at the station and following an interview with investigators, Michaels was arrested and booked into Orange County Jail. He died at the hospital at 10:45 p.m., according to an Orange County Coroner press release.
