Garcon TD catch leads Redskins to last-minute victory

This week, the Redskins take the field against the Eagles in what is likely to be a rainy, messy game.

Washington beat the Eagles 23-20, with Cousins leading a late touchdown drive.

The Philadelphia Eagles (1-2) are coming from a 24-17 road win over the New York Jets in Week 3. The wide receiver suffered a hamstring injury in the first game of the season.

Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins entered the game reeling and exited it with a comeback win. The Cooper touchdown pass was the fourth longest of Bradford’s career.

In another bad start a la the Atlanta loss, a 5-for-10 effort worth 75 yards by Sam Bradford in the first half had you wondering when Mark Sanchez would start warming up on the sideline.

But he couldn’t convert when the Eagles needed him most.

Garcon made several big plays on the drive including a 14-yard reception on third-and-six to give Washington a first down at the 16-yard line in the last minute of play. Bradford grabbed his helmet in frustration. He avoided mistakes – even when the ball hit the turf, Cousins picked it up and did positive things with it – and methodically moved the ball down the field for the better part of the afternoon. At the end of the day, the scoreboard read 37-34, Eagles. Eagles LT Justin Peters (quad) left in the second quarter…. Although they got the deep ball going in the second half, you have to wonder how Chip Kelly’s offense would have fared against a team with a healthy secondary.

The injuries continued into the second half as Bradford himself (ankle) and right tackle Lane Johnson (knee) were hurt, but didn’t miss any plays. The Eagles lost three defensive starters early.

The Eagles just didn’t have enough fuel to finish. Starting at the Washington 32, the Eagles scored an apparent touchdown. After a pair of penalties set up third-and-19 from the Washington 11 on the opening drive, running back Chris Thompson scampered 42 yards up the middle on a draw.

But the Eagles finally gained a lead early in the fourth quarter as Bradford found Miles Austin open for a 39-yard touchdown pass.

Much of the second half, on the other hand, belonged to the Eagles. But on the next play, the Eagles tried a double-reverse, and Agholor dropped Ryan Mathews’ pitch and Washington recovered.

They added to it later in the first quarter by putting together a 10-play drive for another field goal following a three-and-out by the Eagles that took just 1:20 off the clock.
