Costa confident Chelsea can emerge from shaky start

CHELSEA boss Jose Mourinho insisted his side had delivered the reaction he demanded despite suffering Champions League agony against his former club Porto last night.

Chelsea fell behind in the first half after Andre Andre had put Porto ahead, but the Blues replied with a wonderful free-kick from Willian just before the break.

“I got the performance, if I forget two ridiculous mistakes”.

“I think big teams overseas can win games at 70 per cent and conserve their energy – there is no game in the Premier League where you can do that. And in a moment when the game was under control and we were preparing a change, we concede that goal”.

Mou went on to add: “They hit the post from a similar mistake”.

Porto coach Julen Lopetegui was delighted with his side’s display but refused to read too much into it before they face Maccabi Tel-Aviv in a double-header.

Group G leaders Porto and Dynamo Kiev have four points, one more than Chelsea. His team are having a wobble, but he has proved over the course of many years that he is a man capable of bringing success to the club.

The prospect of the Premier League losing its fourth Champions League qualifying place – though still slim – has increased after another dismal evening in the Champions League.

Eden Hazard, Nemanja Matic and captain John Terry were all left on the bench, while Oscar, Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao – returning to the Estadio do Dragao – were omitted from the squad entirely.

Games like today’s are the hardest to analyse because the team played well and it’s tough to know what changes to make afterwards.

We’re not going to pretend it’s been an easy watch for Blues supporters because it hasn’t to far but we’re at least trying to cheer our Chelsea contingent up by devising a list of their five best strikes so far this 2015/16 campaign.

Chelsea were “poor” and deserved to lose to Porto in the Champions League on Tuesday night, according to Sky Sports pundit Phil Thompson.

“It was a performance with two ridiculous mistakes”. Good feelings, happiness, self-esteem … the players need that to play. The two mistakes that cost us the game, a game that was fantastic.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, who is one of the pundits for BT Sport, opined that the current Chelsea players are suffering mentally due to a lack of leadership and composure.
