Terminator: Genisys already had a reported budget of somewhere in the vicinity of $155 million, which isnt chump change, and when you factor in a massive global marketing campaign, at least according to this report, Skydance and Paramount Pictures didnt wind up making any money.

It looks like Terminator, after all these years, won’t be back.
Although the website doesn’t offer any firm figures, the film had a reported production budget of $150 million or more. Everyone began to assume that the planned sequels wouldn’t go forward, until the film performed well internationally, giving some hope to the few people who want the franchise to continue.
After this past summer saw Terminator: Genisys meet with a less-than-enthusiastic reception at the domestic box office, the future of the franchise has been in question. Sources now say “the notion of a Terminator universe is on hold indefinitely”, the website claims.
Thtat’s bad news for fans of Terminator Genisys but good news for the many audience members across the world who thought it sucked a lot. If only 20th Century Fox would learn their lesson, as they’re still considering a Fantastic Four sequel even though it was an even bigger dud than Terminator: Genisys. While the film’s overseas success did suggest that a sequel might still be made, it now seems that this is not going to happen. Paramount still hold rights until 2019, in which it’ll be returned to James Cameron, but we’ll see if Paramount decides to take another risk with the series in that time.
