Texas Rangers fire social media member for Charlie Strong tweet

Texas head coach Charlie Strong watches from the sidelines during the second half of an NCAA college football game against TCU, Saturday, October 3, 2015, in Fort Worth, Texas.

“The tweet was posted by a member of the team’s social media department who was neither working for the Rangers nor was at Globe Life Park today”. And that resulted in a tweet at 2:317 pm PST that read “Fire Charlie”. It has been a fascinating year for sports teams in Texas and Twitter, with the Houston Rockets firing a staffer earlier this season for his use of emojis in a tweet directed at the Dallas Mavericks during the National Basketball Association postseason.

The Texas Rangers released a statement explaining what happened with the tweet calling for Charlie Strong’s job. Unsurprisingly, that didn’t go over well with the Rangers’ brass, who promptly fired the individual. “The Rangers sincerely regret this incident and have taken the appropriate measures to make certain it does not occur in the future”. Texas has yet to comment about the Tweet.
