Militant killed in Kashmir gunbattles

Four jawans and a militant were killed in two separate encounters between security forces and terrorists in Kupwara district in Kashmir Valley on Monday. Three jawans of Indian Army also lost their lives during the operation.

Spokesperson said that the encounter which lasted till about 6PM today resulted in the elimination of two JeM militants identified as Adil Pathan and Burmee.

One soldier was injured in the encounter, which occurred during search operations in Hari, a community in the region’s Pulwama district.

In another encounter going on at Darpora forest area in Lolab, Kupwara, one militant has been killed so far, they said.

Col NN Joshi in a media interview in Srinagar confirmed the killings of troops.

Meanwhile, army along with the additional reinforcement has launched massive searches to track down the militant group hiding inside the dense bushes.

They were instrumental in creating an air of fear among the local Panchs. The outfit was founded by Masood Azhar, one of the three terrorists released in exchange of passengers and crew of the hijacked Indian Airlines plane in December 1999.
