The explosion damaged the cables on the building’s elevators and trapped two people and forced firefighters to walk up to the roof to evaluate the damage. Two people were taken to hospitals by air ambulance, and two were taken to the hospital by ground means, according to a tweet from the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Dept.

The explosion happened before noon Friday, and multiple units responded to the scene.

Chopper4 was over the scene as a section of the top of the building could be seen apparently collapsed near a room that looked like a boiler room.

“All of the sheet metal and ductwork everywhere was falling”, the construction worker said. They have not yet said when it will reopen.

“There was a explosion at the top of the building”. “It got your heart racing”.

Aerial video from Miami television stations showed a large portion of sand on the beach in front of the building was discolored because of the debris.
