Police say the slain fighters, identified as Salim alias Adil Pathan and Rehman alias Burmi, are Pakistani nationals with militant group Jaish-e-Mohammad, or “Army of Mohammad”, which is based out of Pakistan.
In occupied Kashmir, four Indian soldiers were killed in a gunfight with Mujahideen at Hafruda in Handwara area of Kupwara district, this morning.
The police and Army officials said that the encounter started on Sunday afternoon after the security forces entered Kaigam village of Tral area of the district on learning about the presence of militants there.
“The army soldier who sustained a gunshot wound was immediately evacuated and his condition is reported to be stable”, Indian military spokesman Col. N N Joshi said.
Two AK-47 rifles and other ammunition were recovered from the dead terrorists. The entire area was cordoned off by the security forces last night after which they conducted the search operation.
The army has also pressed helicopters into service to trace out the militants.
