It has been reported that the soldier, Cyril Smeeth, had borrowed this glass in April 1941 to get his wife Rosalie a shot of port.

However, he then failed to return the glass and went on war.

His daughter, Inez Jordan, 77, recently found the glass during a cleaning session in her home and thought to return it to its original owner.

She said that her mother always used to say ‘the glass should go back to its place’.

The pub owner after receiving the glass, which has even inked name of the pub, said “I plan to get a case made up for it. It feels quite important”.
