Chaos spread across Virginia Commonwealth University on Friday after rumours of a possible gunman on campus spread, reports Reuters. “Please resume normal activity, and please report any suspicious activity to police”.
VCU’s Monroe Park campus is approximately 12 blocks northwest of the Virginia State Capitol building.
Two independent sightings described the subject as a male wearing a green shirt, jacket and a square military-style cap, with a black backpack.
“Avoid the area, ” the university announcement said”.
There are 31,163 students enrolled and 2,229 full-time faculty members at the university, according to the school website.

The alert comes a day after a gunman in Oregon opened fire at students in Umpqua Community College, killing nine. That shooter died following an exchange of gunfire with police.
