Claudio Ranieri: ‘Today was a battle’

Jamie Vardy continued his fine form for Leicester City as the Foxes bounced back from losing their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 win at Norwich City on Saturday.

“He has done well, has come in and picked up a lot of points early, which is always good”, Neil said to Norwich City TV.

Jeffrey Schlupp doubled Leicester’s advantage moments after the interval before Norwich substitute Dieumerci Mbokani pulled one back for the hosts with a little over 20 minutes remaining.

“We spoke at half-time about how important it was to start very well because they would push and put us under pressure”.

He explained: “We knew very well how Norwich would play“.

But the 28-year-old, who took his tally for the season to seven goals with his first-half penalty, was fit to play on and help the visitors see out the game.

“I don’t give him any advice because you have to live the experience”, said Ranieri.

“But we created eight or nine chances and it was a good match for the fans”. “Maybe we need to concentrate more on the last pass”.

“Vardy had a good performance but so did everyone else”.

“He is okay. I thought, “Oh my god, the injury is very serious” because I thought it was the groin but after he told it was the knee”.

“Sometimes you’ve got to go through that to get a point, but we couldn’t do that”. “Everything that happened in this game we had spoken about, we had worked on trying to stop it, but the easiest way to do that is by not giving away cheap possession and we didn’t do that well enough”.

Already playing with a cast on his arm after cracking two bones in his wrist against Aston Villa, the in-form striker gave Leicester a fright when he needed extended second-half treatment.

It proved impossible for Claudio Ranieri not to allow himself that hearty laugh we’ve become so accustomed to when the name Gary Lineker arose along a Carrow Road concourse. Despite his injury, Vardy has been called into the England squad for the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against Estonia and Lithuania and will hope to add to win his third global cap. When they lost the ball we went on the counter attack and scored a goal.
