FAA officials alerted local authorities and airports around the Georgia-South Carolina border about a missing Piper PA-32 aircraft, headed to Clemson, after air traffic controllers lost contact with the flight about 3:30 p.m.

Authorities have not yet given a cause for the crash. Tony Stewart Racing posted a message on its Facebook page Saturday, calling Elliott a “fierce competitor on the track”.

Deputy Chief Adams Williams said that around the time the plane went down, there was a light rain.

‘They heard the crash; no one saw it impact, ‘ Williams told The Greenville News.

Ground crews had been searching the banks of the lake and boats with sonar capability had been scouring the area, Williams said.

In addition, a sheriff’s office helicopter also assisted with the search overhead.

According to a former Warsaw City Official, the plane was registered to Warsaw Councilman Charlie Smith.

Bibler was also a former Tippecanoe Valley football coach who has just resigned to take a job with an in-home family counseling company, inkfreenews.com reported.
