Police searched his apartment and found two pistols, four rifles and a shotgun, she said. Others were killed after being told to crawl across the floor.

Authorities have not disclosed whether they have an envelope or package from Harper-Mercer.

Hanlin noted that Mercer exchanged fire with two officers before committing suicide, contradicting earlier statement the shooter was “neutralized” by police. Seven other people were wounded in the attack in Roseburg, about 180 miles south of Portland.
