Healthy First

The heat of the summer may entice people to want to take better care of their health, not only for these few months but for the future as well.  Eating healthy does not have to taste bad, it just means you are making wiser choices which your body will thank you for later.

One way to eat healthy during any time of the year is to enjoy the fruits that are in season. Eating seasonally is a great way to enjoy your favorites or even try new fruits and vegetables at their peak. If possible, you can even take a trip to your local farmer’s market to support local businesses and ensure your purchases are as fresh as possible. If you need help locating a farmer’s market there’s an app designed to help you with just that task. It’s called Market Mapper. Just know that much like going to the grocery store hungry, if you go the farmer’s market hungry you will likely buy more items then you originally intended to!

Eating healthy during the summer is also important for your children. They will likely need more nutrients to replace what is lost during sporting events and other outdoor activities.

Eat Your Meal before Desert

The world of savory options is endless. If you can imagine it and it’s safe for human consumption, chances are you will likely find a place to purchase that food. Savory cooking can easily incorporate healthy items with a bit of planning and yet still be delicious. It is also a good idea to include lighter options for those days when you know you need to eat, but  it’s too hot to make anything heavy.

Note that if you are preparing the meal to be transported to another location, take all proper food storage precautions. Purchase containers that are able to handle the ride and keep your food safe for all to enjoy once you arrive at your destination!

Time for Desert

Once the main course(s) of the meal are complete, there is a good chance that many people may go looking for a sweet treat to cap off the experience. There are many iconic sweet treats that come to mind when thinking of summer like candy apples or cotton candy. Another classic is toffee.  Enjoy your sweets responsibly though!
