A few nerdy couples might be setting the latest proposal trend by popping the question using virtual reality headsets.
The Vive headset, which creates a form of “room-scale” VR that lets users walk around their virtual environment, isn’t on sale yet, but because Valve makes the visuals for it, employee Chandler Murch snagged one to surprise his girlfriend.
Chandler Murch, made the out-of-the-box lurch at Valve’s Washington headquarters, using the HTC Vive headset which both Valve and technology maker have been jointly working on since March. “It wasn’t imaginary anymore”, she noted. In her world, wearing the HTC Vive headset, she saw a ring floating in mid-air.
After she took off her headset, she found her now fiance on one knee holding the wand and the real engagement ring before saying yes.
“But I didn’t say yes”.
While A few tech journalists have suggested the proposal was a publicity stunt for the device, due to be released next year, Ms Tortorice said it was a “hilarious and fun surprise”. And of course, she said yes.
