The Strain Recap 10/4/15: Season 2 Finale “Night Train”
At this point, the one in the most danger is Zach (Max Charles). The problem is that while a lot happens in the finale, most of it doesn’t mean a thing. Eph and Nora worked on a biological weapon to wipe out the strigoi entirely. She proposes that he do something to make the Master and Eichorst respect him more. Gus’ army? They showed up to kill the vampires who attacked Setrakian and Fet after we had to sit through the auction, and then basically disappeared, having fulfilled their single, random narrative objective. While Zach is listening to his headphones, Kelly (Natalie Brown) spots him fram afar.

As it turns out by the end of the episode, that photo might be the best memory Eph will have left of both his son and his former lover.
Auction time! Abraham, Fet, and Eichhorst meet with Creem for Occido Lumen auction and the scene is a nail bitter. Instead, there’s a question mark floating above Fet’s future. Does the book really hold the answers to how to stop the Master in his tracks and save mankind? They bid so much money that Creem suggests the one with the most in their account gets the Lumen for $323 million. Quinlan appears as well, and Setrakian begs him to listen to reason. Eichorst wins the book and Setrakian is crushed. So what does he do to prove a point? Eichorst pleads to allow him to check with the bank, but Alonso has made up his mind – the book belongs to Setrakian! Thomas makes his escape as Gus runs inside the van and discovers the escape hatch.
Oh! As one final “fuck you” to its viewers, The Strain chose to give a tiny glimpse at what an interesting version of this show might look like when Quinlan faced off against Eichorst for a super-powered vampire fight … that lasted less than 10 seconds.
Eph, Zack, and Nora begin their trek out of New York with a mix of sweet and emotionally stilted farewells, as Fet shows off his sensitive side while Abraham has difficulty understanding what a smile is. They do so successfully at the most inopportune moment – Eph is in the club auto while Nora and Zack are still in their seats when the attack comes. Eph gets up to get a drink, when the train hits a few sort of bump. Palmer says that his security team can easily get the book back, but he demands to be an equal. Gus looks up to see dynamite, just before the van explodes, possibly killing him. The Master speaks through Eichorst, saying, “I fear no one”, before engaging in a shootout of sorts with Quinlan. Suddenly the Master appears, and surprisingly, Palmer shouts at him to never take him for granted again.
On tonight’s episode per the FX synopsis “in the Season 2 finale, Setrakian and Fet fight for possession of the Occido Lumen and get help from a surprising source”. Quinlan then arrives at the Mexican standoff. The fate of the world is resting on their shoulders after all. It’s done. Dr. Nora Martinez: dear friend, fearless scientist, and love of Ephraim Goodweather’s life, has died.
After a season of trying to outrun his mother Kelly, Zach went to her. However, instead of being turned he was kept human. Revealing her true visage, he doesn’t kill it, he hugs the strigoi as if it is still the mother he knew and walks away with her as they leave Nora to die. His mom doesn’t even have makeup in this scene, she looks dead and nothing like Kelly!
She and Nora face off, but as the latter isn’t much of a shot for the moment, Kelly has to take a few blows from Nora’s sword as Zack is supposed to run away. Good riddance you little shit.
On when she found out about Nora’s fate ” We knew around midseason, or maybe towards [episode] eight or nine. Nora slams her sword against the electrified portion of the train tracks and she’s fried to death. If you missed it we have a full and detailed recap, right here for you. No. Even better…he kills Coco. Palmer tells Eichorst that he pulled back the money as a sign of the power he still wields over the strigoi – including the Master – who is his partner in this entire endeavor. Will Palmer remain on the Master’s side after this or will he jump ship and join Setrakian? Palmer cuts open Coco and keeps her heart. Palmer freaks as he watches his lady love crumble to the floor while the Master zaps away in a split second.

The next scene is of Coco and Palmer.
